Obituary

Patricia ‘Tricia’ Suzann Velasquez, 44, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 2nd, 2020. She left the loving arms of her husband, into the arms of the Lord, after a courageous 13-year fight with breast cancer.

Tricia was born to Mark and Lesa Brownen in Bakersfield CA, on July 2nd, 1975. She grew up in Keene and Arvin CA, where she graduated from Arvin High School. She eventually settled in Bakersfield, where she met and married her soulmate, George Velasquez. Together George and Tricia raised their three children, Shore, Noah, and Ethan Velasquez. Tricia loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed watching Shore play softball, coloring, skating, family trips to Disneyland, and even playing league Hockey with George.

Tricia proudly served the senior citizens of Bakersfield, working in the senior Assisted Living community, as well as Hospice. She had a sincere and special connection with the seniors, advocating and educating the Bakersfield community about their needs. She was energetic, professional, had a magnetic personality and was excellent at anything she put her mind to doing. She was proud of her work and loved what she did.

Tricia was diagnosed with stage 3c breast cancer in January of 2007. She fought the disease for 13 years with the support of her loving family. Tricia’s life was a miracle to many, and she used her adversity as an opportunity to educate and encourage others. She was an inspiration and blessing to others who were and still are, fighting this disease. She was always willing to share her experiences and was a wealth of information to those that needed her.

Tricia is survived by her loving husband George Velasquez and her three children; Shore Velasquez, Noah Velasquez, and Ethan Velasquez; Her parents, Mark and Lesa Brownen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Nilda ‘Mamacita’ Velasquez; brothers Jeremy Brownen (Lillian) Greg Brownen (Alicia); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Jana Maragoni of Optimal Hospice care who Tricia, as well as the rest of the family, grew to love and appreciate for her sincere, loving and thoughtful care of Tricia.

Tricia left this world much sooner than she should have, but she had a great impact on those she encountered while she was here. She was courageous, loyal and loving. She was full of heart and incredibly inspirational to anyone who had the chance to know her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

On behalf of Dean and myself, I want to offer our condolences to the Velasquez and Brownen families. Tricia was such a light in this world. I will always cherish the memories I have when her and my girls were growing up together. She left a permanent mark in my life.

I have so many memories i don’t even know where to begin. One of my favorites was roller skating with her. And desiring to be just like her when I grew up. So was always so real with me no matter what. I am truly going to miss her.
