Michael Leslie Harp was born on February 19, 1949 to Bobbie and Floyd Harp. Mike grew up in Lamont and attended local schools. Mike graduated from Arvin High School in 1967. He later attended Fresno State University and graduated from California State University in Bakersfield in 1973, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. In 1975 Mike went to work for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office as a Sheriff’s Aide assigned to the Identification Bureau. In 1976 Mike graduated from The Kern County Sheriff’s Reserve Academy. He served as a Reserve Deputy for many years until he was severely injured in a car accident. In 1988 he married Michelle Hineline and they had two children, Michael Burgess Harp and Leanna Michelle Harp. Mike continued his career at the Sheriff’s Office until he retired in April 2003. As a Fingerprint Specialist Mike became the Expert in Three Strike Prosecutions. He was well respected by the Deputy District Attorneys, Judges, and even Defense Attorneys. Mike was liked by everyone he met and will be missed but not forgotten. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Steven Harp. Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years Michelle, son Michael, daughter Leanna, brother Jeffrey and his wife Lora, sister Becky and husband Chuck, niece Emily, niece Jennifer and great nephew Nolan, nephew Andrew and wife Mai and great niece Gracie. Thank you, Hoffman Hospice, for making his final week and passing on May 13th 2023 peaceful at home with his family. His viewing will be on Monday May 29th from 4 PM to 6 PM. Graveside services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday May 30th. Both will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest 2739 Panama Ln, Bakersfield, CA 93313. There will be a celebration of his life immediately following in the Banquet Room.
