Donald Charles Beauford, “Don”, was born on December 22, 1930 at his home in Tehachapi, CA. He was the last of five children born to Verlie and Harry Beauford. He passed away April 13, 2020, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Don was enlisted into the Navy November 4, 1948, and served during the Korean War. He spoke of his time in the service fondly. He served as an Airman and served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and also on the USS Midway, the one that is docked in San Diego today. He served for four years until November 3, 1952.
On his birthday, December 22, 1951 at the Indiana Roof in Indianapolis, IN, he met Virginia Sears for the first time. They became engaged in July 1952 and on February 8, 1953, he married Virginia in Indianapolis, IN. They first moved to Los Angeles, then to Las Vegas, NV where they would have two of their five children, Mark and Janet. They then moved to Bakersfield, CA for the rest of their 63 years of marriage. There they had their last three children, Terry, Kathy and Hal, to finish their family.
While Don had various jobs, his main career was a route salesman. He retired from Mother’s Cookies on December 21, 1994 after working there for 25 years.
After his retirement, he went back to school to learn ASL, something he always wanted to learn. There he would meet a new group of friends in the deaf community, too numerous to mention, who meant the world to him and Virginia. He attended Laurelglen Bible Church where the deaf church was and would go both to the hearing church and the deaf church.
Don loved playing golf and when he was younger would play as often as he could. In his later years, he had to resign to just watching it on tv. Don became a Mason, like his dad and over the years was also involved in the Shriners. He was very passionate about his fundraisers for the Shriners.
Don is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his son, Harold, his grandson Cory, his parents and his siblings. What a glorious reunion in Heaven he must have had to be with his family again.
He is survived by his 4 children, Mark, Janet, Terry (Mark) Kathy (Ric); 16 grandchildren, Matthew, Breanna, Jessica, Sara, Matthew, Christopher, Crenna, Philip, Michael, Heidi (Scott), Tim, Laura, Linsey, Beki (David), Chelsea, Kaitlin (Logan), and 30 great-grandchildren along with his nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his “adopted” grandchildren, James and Nikki Murrillo, along with their 2 children, Mia and James along with so many, many friends who he was so grateful to have.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Jessie Price who helped care for Don. She has been a blessing from God to our family. Because of her help, along with his daughters and his son-in-law Mark we were able to keep Don at his home he shared with Virginia for the past 60 years.
Viewing will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 3700 River Blvd., on May 7, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m. and due to the current situation attendance will be limited but will be live-streamed from Greenlawn’s website for those who want to watch it.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Laurelglen Bible Church at a later date. Please email Don’s daughter, Terry Cross at for further information.
