Obituary for Sylvia Diana Ortega

Sylvia Diana Hernandez Ortega was born to the proud parents of Paul Vargas Hernandez, and Carman Mendivil Hernandez July 24th, 1945, in Oakland California. Sylvia came from a proud family of Veterans, who served our country representing the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard.

Sylvia grew up in Burbank, Ca. Attending St. Finbar Catholic School, and John Burroughs high school in Burbank. She was raised by parents who instilled strong family values built on love. As a child and teen she enjoyed her family vacations visiting her dear cousins in El Centro, Ca and Oakland, Ca. She met her husband Arthur Ortega at a dance, and they were married the following year.

Sylvia and Art had three children and raised their family in Sun Valley, Ca. They lived in Shingle Springs, Ca and Alturas, Ca. They found their forever home in Frazier Park, Ca. where they lived for the past 37 years.

Sylvia worked for Frazier Mountain Community Health Center (Clinica Sierra Vista) for 19 years. She was known first for her kindness, compassion, and willingness to help families in the mountain community. She often volunteered her time at health fairs and outreach programs to better service her community.

Sylvia was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She embraced every moment with them. She was there for it all: the last-minute book reports, the school plays, the band events, the tennis matches, and football games.

As a mother, she wore an infinite number of hats. She was the guardian, the best friend, the provider, the coach, and the teacher. Her favorite activity was going out for walks with her children, and watching her grow and live their best lives.

Sylvia is a great example of how one life can impact the lives of many. She did it with grace, love, and her hearty infectious laugh, which inspired all she encountered. She was a walking Angel and will be miss deeply by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Arthur Ortega, children Marie Carlin, Paul Ortega, and Artie Ortega, along with grandchildren Michael, Anthony, Alexandria, Anita, Adriana, Monique and Daniel Carlin and 13 great grandchildren.
