Obituary for Samuel Castaneda Gutierrez

Samuel Castaneda Gutierrez
09/15/1955 - 09/20/2023

Sam was born in Yahualicia, Jalisco. He died at the age of 68 years at the Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital on September 20, 2023. He is survived by his Wife Margarita Felix Gutierrez, her children Margarita Rodriguez, Shady Akins, Sabrina Alicia Bruney, and Thomas Baldemar Sanchez. The mother of his children Sharon Lynn Gutierrez, and his three children, Steven Albert Gutierrez, Christopher Samuel Gutierrez, and Tasha Ziemann. He was the 6th child of 11 siblings: Eusebio Gutierrez, Carmen Gutierrez, Elias Gutierrez, Refugio (Willie) Gutierrez, Elidia Ramirez, Maria Concepcion Ojeda, Rafael Gutierrez, Jose Gutierrez, Zeferina Alvarado, Elvia Gutierrez, and Gillerminia (Gigi) Nguyen and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his: Father Francisco Gutierrez, and Mother Maria Guadalupe Gutierrez.

Sam came to California in 1971 at the age of 16. He worked hard to make a better life for himself. He and his brothers worked in the fields. He quickly moved up to a mechanic in the potato sheds. He became a United States Citizen in 1986. He put himself through school and studied A/C installation. Later he received his State Contractors License and started his own business, Gutierrez Refrigeration. He accomplished so much in his life receiving several certificates and continued working in agriculture. As a skilled Mechanic and Refrigeration Technician, he worked 28 years for Heck Cellars Winery (F. Korbel & Bros., Inc.), where he retired in June of 2022. He wanted to enjoy life, travel, and vacation with his wife. He was so happy to say he was retired and looked forward to spending more time with his family and friends. He was always available to help others and enjoyed teaching anyone how to do things.

He was so proud of his son Steven for taking over his business as he got older and learning his refrigeration trade. He also enjoyed the many conversations with his son Christopher, laughing and joking and having a good time. As a blended family Sam included everyone and was extremely involved in everyone’s lives. He was loved by everyone and will be deeply missed. There are special people in our lives who never leave us, even after they're gone.
