Sabin Lee Smith

Born March 23rd, 1977 in Lynwood, CA to Doretta Suzanne Weekley and Harold Lee Smith. The Smith family moved to Durango, CO, then Lake Isabella, CA and settling in Bakersfield, CA.

Sabin attended Rafer Johnson and Edison Elementary and middle school and received his high school diploma at North High. Sabin’s last education was with the Deveroux foundation in Santa Barbara where he also rode horses.

Sabin spent his 20’s-early 30’s with NAPD day programs learning life skills and extra-curricular activities, also finding employment in the Janitorial/Recycling service. Sabin lived 17 years at Pals house with supportive staff and housemates which quickly became family. Sabin spent his late 30’s with New Pathway’s day program supposedly for janitorial but mostly dancing and stealing hearts of the staff members.

Sabin’s last couple years were in San Joaquin skilled nursing facility where he kept the staff on their toes, while sneaking a piece of their heart as well.

Sabin’s powerful spirit enjoyed the simplest things in life, a card, music, food, dancing, bowling, riding horses. Sabin’s favorite TV show was cops, favorite drink Starbucks, and he loved to threaten to AWOL and fire people. Sabin’s love for his family and friends was endless.

Sabin attended Christ the King church at 1800 Bedford Way for over 20 years with Monsignor Frost and his favorite usher was Toni. Sabin also visited many other churches with friends where he enjoyed singing gospel hymns.

Sabin passed away on January 30th, 2021 in Bakersfield, CA after a long battle of chronic kidney disease. Sabin is proceeded in death by his mother Dori, father Harold, Grandmothers Dolores Tomilen (maternal), Mary Cupute (Paternal).

Sabin is survived by his brothers Brian Daniel Smith (Sarah Smith) Joshua Alen Smith (Sheanna Smith) along with many nieces and nephews and one nephew Tucker Sabin Smith proudly carrying on his name.

Sabin taught us all a lot about life, love, and the pursuit of happiness, no money, no honey, and get up get ready. He will be missed deeply.
