Obituary for Robert Bernard Warne

ROBERT WARNE
December 9, 1945 - April 16, 2023

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Robert Warne, passed away on April 16, 2023, at home with his family by his side. Robert (Bob) was born December 9, 1945 to Archer and Kathleen Warne in Bakersfield, CA. Robert lived with his family on Cedar St. until he was 17 years old. As the older brother, Robert enjoyed mercilessly teasing his younger sister Elizabeth (Betty).

Bob graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1963, and enlisted in the US Army. He served from 1966-1969 as a radar operator, spending much of that time stationed in West Germany and The Presidio of San Francisco. After returning from the service, he enrolled in Bakersfield College and earned his associates degree. He began working as a pipe draftsman for Kern Oil and Refining in 1974, and later became a Boiler Inspector and Maintenance Supervisor of the refinery. Bob left the refinery in the early 90’s and worked as a Project Manager, overseeing projects such as co-generation plants for Kraft Foods in Visalia and UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento, and a water treatment plant in Long Beach. He retired at the age of 68 as the Project Coordinator of Engineering for Kern Oil and Refining.

Bob greatly enjoyed vacationing. As a young man he traveled to Canada with his father. He enjoyed traveling in Germany during his time in the Army. On two occasions, he banked up his annual leave and was given the opportunity to hop aboard military aircraft and fly to England. Additionally, in 1968, he and a couple other soldiers took a bus from Wurzburg to Nuremberg to see Jimi Hendrix in concert. He later vacationed in Tahiti, Germany, Austria, and visited the Hawaiian Islands four times. Most of all, he loved going to his cabin in the Sequoia National Forest. He enjoyed hiking and observing the plants, birds, and animals in nature. He also loved going to air shows, gun shows, races and car shows, dinner with his children, and luncheons with his grandchildren or Kern Oil guys.

Bob is survived by his sister Elizabeth Warne and brother-in-law Duane Marti; his former wife Shallie Warne; daughters Audrey Warne and Lacey Espinoza, daughter Lea Cantu and son-in-law Emilio Cantu; and grandchildren Jackson, RaeLynn, Cadence, Noah, Aeithan, Val, Paul, and Emilio Julian and his wife Haley; and great-grandson Leonardo.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Greenlawn Cemetery Northeast, 3700 River Blvd. Viewing will be at 10:00am, followed by a chapel and graveside service.
