Obituary for Michael Hillis "Mike" McAlister

Michael Hill Mcalister, age 75, was called home by the Lord on February 4th, 2021 in Bakersfield, California. He was born in Bakersfield, California on May 22nd, 1945 by beloved parents Doyle Mcalister and Mary Mcalister. Michael attended North High and graduated in 1963. Michael knew at the age of 12 that his calling was to be an architect, therefore he finished his studies at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo and graduated with a degree in architecture. He then went on and started his own successful business and designed many medical, commercial, and residential buildings. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and was recognized with many awards for the good work he did for each community he helped design. He had such a passion for what he did and put every ounce of dedication into his work. His work allowed him to travel all around the world and display the creativity that God blessed him with. His career allowed him to gain some of his best friends and he admired each one. Another one of his biggest accomplishments was graduating from the school of ministry and becoming a pastor. It was one graduation he truly celebrated. Michael was an architect, businessman, man of the lord, and loved the people in his life. He met the love of his life, Dixie Mcalister, in 3rd grade. They went their separate ways after high school but then they came back together in 1991, from there they were inseparable. Their marriage was something they both cherished and she was the absolute love of his life. On the 18th of March 2011, due to Mike's failing health, Mike received a miracle which was a lung transplant performed by wonderful doctors from UCLA. It was a second breath of life and allowed him to continue to honor God for another 10 years. He was able to continue to push forward in his life and be surrounded by the people he loved. It was such a blessing and he genuinely appreciated all the prayers because he knew in his heart it's why it was successful. With this new fortunate opportunity of life, Mike continued to do the things he enjoyed with the people that God surrounded him with. He enjoyed taking trips to the beach in his cars since he was such a car guy, especially with his wife Dixie. He had many unique cars throughout his lifetime and loved being able to put his own touch on them. In his life, Mike adored animals and wanted to give them good homes. He had total love for all animals, he loved horses allowing him to ride with the High Sierra Club and Kern County Sheriff's Department posse. He was survived by his Queensland heeler named Biscuit that Mike just adored and his little Shih Tzu Yoshi. He loved attending and serving at his church, New Life Center, as long as he was able to. He loved reading the word and loved being a part of a men's group bible study he attended for years. Mike was an artist and made beautiful pieces for the home and he was able to fix anything he put his mind to. He loved traveling, especially to Cambria, his favorite getaway, with his wife Dixie. He cherished his friends and loved ones and always remained loyal. He was survived by his wife Dixie Mcalister with a marriage of over 30 years; his daughter Tracy Mcalister from a previous marriage along with her children, his stepson Steve and Troy Kresha. Also of big importance to Mike’s life was Steve’s wife Yaz, Troy’s wife Ana, his grandchildren Alexis and Ashlee Kresha, and Bailey, his step-grandson. It would take a book to share all of his accomplishments and the highlights of his life, everybody has a story and Michael's was amazing. For those friends and families who knew him, know this is true and he will be dearly missed.
