Obituary for Matthew E. Taylor Sr.

MATTHEW EVEREST TAYLOR, SR

FEBRUARY 24, 1961 – JUNE 3, 2020

Matthew (Matt) Everest Taylor, Sr born February 24th, 1961 in San Jose, CA went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 3rd, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents John Cheney Taylor and Nancy Harmon-Taylor and his grandparents Charles and Yvonne Harmon, and John Meister Taylor.

Matt is survived by his wife Shelley Taylor, his 3 children, Matthew Jr., Mackenzie, and Marissa Taylor, and his 6 grandchildren Matthew III, Jordan, Noah, Brooklyn, Thomas, and Harper Taylor all of Bakersfield, CA. He also is survived by his brother and sister in law John and Danice Taylor of FL, his sister and brother in law Marty and Bob Lechtreck of Las Vegas, NV., and brother in law David Kosareff of Taft, CA., along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Matt grew up in Sacramento, CA with his dad, mom, siblings, grandparents, aunt and uncle and cousins. He attended school at Sacramento City Schools, and graduated from Valley High in 1979. After high school, he worked at Spitzers in Sacramento as a cook and later moved to Bakersfield in 1982 to attend Bakersfield College where he took some business courses. He worked at Black Angus Restaurant as a bartender during this time, where he met his wife Shelley who also worked at Black Angus in 1983. Matt and Shelley then moved to Sacramento, CA in 1985 where they were engaged and later married June 22, 1985. In 1989, Matt and Shelley welcomed their first child while living in Sacramento and about 10 months later moved back to Bakersfield where they welcomed 2 more of their children.

In between the time of being married and his first child, Matt also worked in construction where he had an accident and crushed his right arm. Once he healed, he had to learn a new work trade which was in Pest Control. He worked in this industry for over the next 30 years, where his last place of employment was at Oxley’s Pest Control before his passing.

Matt loved to cook and could make anything from nothing and make it a meal. He was our chef of the family. He loved to listen to Rock n’ Roll and also liked to garden, install sprinklers, landscaping and loved hummingbirds. He enjoyed and loved watching all of his kids playing soccer and also coached them. When his grandchildren were born, he added a hobby of building LEGO’s and loved spending time with them as they became Master Builders.

We will miss him so very much as life will not ever be the same without him and he has gone way too soon, but Matt would always say God has a plan!
