Martin Baguio was born on August 3, 1949, in Bakersfield Ca. and passed away with his
children by his side on January 23, 2021. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, coach and
friend. He coached youth tackle football for 26 years and high school golf for 4 years. Martin was a
devoted father to his children and the guiding light coaching his sons’ sports. He was an
accomplished golfer, enjoyed the outdoors and loved to travel at any opportunity.
Martin grew up in Arvin, Ca where he graduated from Arvin High School in 1967. He
attended Bakersfield College before enlisting in the US Army, 101st Airborne Division, as Door
Gunner, in the Vietnam War. He survived being shot down twice, received two Bronze Stars for
heroism, and was Honorably discharged in 1971.He returned home and enrolled in Cal Poly, San
Luis Obispo. After his Cal Poly years he began working for Giumarra Vineyards where he met and
married his best friend and devoted wife of 33 years, Susy, until her passing in 2009. Martin worked
for various companies, finally settling at Pacific Irrigation where he worked for over 30 years, retiring
in 2018. After retiring Martin followed his passion for golf, working for Kern River Golf Course and
Seven Oaks Country Club.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents, Gaudencio and Frances Baguio and his loving
wife Susy Baguio. He is survived by his daughter Nikki and husband James Murillo, son Brady and
Wife Kristen Baguio; 4 grandchildren Mia, James, Blake, and Kolby; his three sisters, Lori and
husband Phil Gago, Pauline Fishman and Irene Hildebrand; numerous nieces, nephews, extended
family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held in his honor on February 19, 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn
Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane, in the Celebration of Life Center. A private burial
service will follow at the National Cemetery in Arvin.
