Obituary for Manuel Munoz Lopez

Manuel Munoz Lopez, 89 years young passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022, at his home in Bakersfield, California.

Son of Jose and Margarita (of Sonora, Mexico), he was born December 27th, 1932 in Phoenix, Arizona. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1952, earning the Korean Service Medal, U. N. Service Medal, Republic of South Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

After his service he had a career as a Postman for the US Postal Service, followed by being the beloved Maintenance Director for Bishop Alemany High School in the Los Angeles Archdiocese; where he was fondly known as “Boots” for his cowboy boots that he would wear and was a friendly face around campus in his cart.
Manuel (Manny) was very involved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 10859), a lifetime member he was the Adjutant for fifteen years. He also was a 4th Degree Knight, for the Knights of Columbus as a charter member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 14754. As a member of the parish at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton he was an usher for services there.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 54 years, Maria; his daughters Lucy, Lorrie, Kris, and Karla; his eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his sisters Lucy and Catalina and brothers Ernest, Jim, and John. He is preceded by his son Manny Jr. and brothers Joe and Felix.
