Obituary for M. "Jane" Garnett

M. Jane Garnett passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 99 on January 24, 2021 in Bakersfield California.
Jane was born to Virgie and Hugh Michael on January 22, 1922 in Lubbock, Texas. She met the love of her life, Henry C. Garnett in Bisbee Arizona as she was completing her studies at Bisbee High School. After a whirlwind courtship they were married in 1940. Henry and Jane moved to Bakersfield in 1945 where together they started Garnett’s Jewelry. Jane managed the financial aspects of the family business until their joint retirement.
Although active in the business, Jane also managed the family. She provided a safe and happy household and was renowned as a seamstress. She became skilled at making high quality clothing without a pattern - after one look.
Jane most likely holds the world-record for 99 years and 2 days of living a life without intentionally causing harm to any person while adding her grace to all she encountered. The world has lost a Saint and Heaven has gained one.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years in 2002, and her daughter Patricia
G. Callagy, in 2019. She is survived by her children, Michael W. Garnett, Linda J. Garnett-Kirk, Henry W. Garnett, and Michael J. Callagy who selflessly gave her such comfort and companionship in her final years. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, Laura Furlong, Dale Clark, Michael K. Garnett, Daniel Garnett, Patrick Garnett, Andrew Kirk, Lindsey Kirk, Philip Garnett, Cassidy Garnett and Doroni Garnett, 6 great-grandchildren, Conner, Kelly, Jenna, Autumn, Melodie and Aiden, as well as 5 great-great-grandchildren, Eden, Oliver, Isaac, Nathaniel, and Rose Patricia.
A family graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Boulevard, Bakersfield California on February 6, 2021 at noon.
