Obituary for Kevin Hock

Kevin Owen Hock, 52, passed away in Tehachapi, California on August, 25, 2019 due to complications of Valley Fever.
Kevin was born on August 12, 1967 to Larry and Carole Hock of Bakersfield. He graduated from West High School in 1985. In 1991 he met his wife Patti and they were married on August 28, 1993. Kevin was hired full time with the Bakersfield Police Department in 1995 where he worked until his passing. Kevin and Patti welcomed a son, Jared Owen, in 1997.
In 1998, Kevin joined the BPD K9 team and teamed up with his partner, Dex. He and Dex worked together for over seven years. They shared a very special bond. Kevin loved animals and previously served on the Board of the Bakersfield SPCA. He and Patti had several special pets throughout their 26 years of marriage.
As a family Kevin, Patti and Jared took many vacations. Kevin’s favorite place was the beach. He had special memories of playing in the tidepools in Cambria when he was young. After vacationing in Kona in 2015, he decided that was where he wanted to retire.
Kevin had a very strong work ethic. After his first ride-a-long with BPD, he knew he wanted to be a cop. He had many different assignments during his almost 24 years on the force. His “blue family” was almost as important to him as his real family. There are many officers that he considered his brothers.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Patti Hock and his son Jared Hock; his father Larry (Pat) Hock, brother Keith (Michelle) Hock, father-in-law Gerald Grabinski, sister-in-law Sue (Doug) Bundy, niece Madie Hock, nephew Kadel Hock, Uncle Jack (Beverly) Hock, Aunt Sharon (Jim) Boen and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother Carole Hock and mother-in-law Ann Grabinski.
Kevin will be missed by many. His tough façade hid a heart of gold. He was genuine in all aspects of his life. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a faithful friend and an excellent officer.
