Obituary for Joyce Lou Songer

Joyce Songer

Joyce was born in Wynette Oklahoma, on October 21,1930, the first child of Earl and Anna Bentley. The Bentley family was a part of the "Grapes of Wrath" movement that made their way from the dust bowl of Oklahoma settling in the central valley of California in 1941She grew up in Arvin California and graduated from Bakersfield High School and then attended Pasadena College. She met Estey Songer on July 4, 1950 and they were married on October 7th that same year. This was the beginning of a great love story that would last for 70 years. They put down roots in Bakersfield where they raised their 2 sons, Rob and Jerry, and built a life founded on their faith in Christ and centered in the church. Joyce worked as a bookkeeper, and for 25 years was the office administrator of the Olive Knoll s Church of the Nazarene. She taught Sunday School out of her deep love for God's Word, she sang in the choir and selflessly served wherever she was needed. Joyce and Estey truly enjoyed life together. They lived their lives loving God, loving each other and all those they came in contact with. Joyce slipped beyond the bonds of this earthly life on February 71h, 2021and she has now heard the words of her Savior saying,
" Well done, good and faithful servant, Welcome Home".
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bill Bentley. She leaves behind her sister Nina Garrison, her husband Estey Songer, her sons Rob and Jerry, and their spouses Debie and Cynt hia, six grandchildren, Andrea, Chris, Kristi, Patricia, Shawna, Michael, and their spouses, and 12 great grandchildren and was loved by all.

A service of the celebration of her life and faith will be held at the Olive Knolls Church of the Nazarene on Thursday February 18, 2021 at 6:30pm.
