Obituary for Jose De La Luz Pena

Jose was born in Inde, Durango, Mexico, he was second child of 5 children. His parents were Isabel Rubio Barraza and Jose De La Luz Peña Sr. Born into humble beginnings with a strong valued work ethic. He applied to work in the United States thru “The Bracero Program.” He worked in agriculture for several years in Las Cruces, New Mexico and migrated to California once he completed the program and was given his green card. Jose met Mary Jane and were married in 1964. Jose began as a dry wall taper apprentice and then graduated to journey man, became official member of International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades local office in Bakersfield, CA. Jose became a US citizen in 1990, achieving the American Dream and leaving a legacy of an exemplary hard-working role model for his family and those around him.

The family would like to thank, Optimal Hospice, Robert, Deyanira, Rosie, Dolores and Olivia for their constant care and recommendations, Horizon Medical Equipment and their staff, Dr Sam Singh and Dr Parvez Memon and all the medical community that served Jose.



Jose was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Merceditas, Refugio, and Rosa and his brother, Eleuterio, his wife-Mary Jane Peña. Jose will be remembered by his five children, Mercy Peña, Joe Peña, Rose Gutierrez, Lucy Valenzuela (Frankie) and Joana Guido. His eleven grandchildren, Marlaina (Jose), Ivan, Rodd, Todd (Gabriela), Samantha, Jacob, Heather, Valerie (Adrian), Marina and Mary Ann. His five great grandchildren, Madeline, Brooke, Savannah, Xander and Rodd Jr.
