Joe H. Rios obituary
Joe Henry Rios Sr.(a.k.a. Dad & Papa)
82 years old
Died: September 21, 2020 in Bakersfield, Ca.
Son of Joe and Mary Rios. Joe(dad) was born November 22, 1937 in Kansas city, Kansas. My
dad started working in the fields in Fresno Ca from the age of 8 yrs old. He picked cotton,
grapes, peaches, chilies and etc. He graduated from Edison High School in 1956 with his
diploma. He started his military career his senior year of high school with the Navy Reserve and
ended in the Army after 8 years of service. During his military career he married Cinday and had 2
beautiful daughters Theresa and Annette and divorced a year later. On July 31,1964 dad married
Delores (mom). After dad's military career he began his 18 year career in Fresno with the State
of California Department of Motor Vehicle. He retired as manager of the Taft, California branch.
Dad then started a career with Mobile Oil Company when he retired after 15 years of service in
1996. During his time of working for Mobile, he and mom opened a Mexican restaurant called
"El Sombrero". But having the restaurant and young children my parents decided to close the
profitable business to make life less busy.
This part is had to write cause my dad was very humble and wouldn't talk about himself even
when you asked. We attended church every Sunday at St. Mary's Church in Taft. My parents were
always involved with church functions and volunteering. Dad was very athletic, played lots of
sports on different teams and leagues as a youth and adult. He bowled, dance, swam, golfed,
played basketball, softball and baseball. He even played a baseball tournament on his wedding
day to mom. 😁 He was in the Indian Guide, a member of the Kiwanis and Loyal Order of the
Moose Lodge. He enjoyed taking trips with mom to Laughlin Nevada to hit the slot machines.
They would sometimes take their granddaughters Arianna and Jasmine. Dad enjoyed watching
Golf and Football on television. Kansas City Chiefs was his team and he was excited that they
won the Super Bowl last year.
Joe(dad) is survived by his wife Delores Rios(mom), siblings: Linda and Ray, children: Theresa,
Annette, Richard, Robin(me), and Joe Jr, numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brothers and
sisters in law, cousins and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Mary Rios, father and mother in law: Joe and
Jessie Aguilar, siblings: Bobby, Carlos, Mike and Helen, daughter: Renee Rios, grandchildren:
