Obituary for Jill Ann Milazzo

Jill Ann Marie Milazzo, OCDS, passed away on September 20, 2020 in her home in Bakersfield, CA.
She was born July 12, 1938 in Springfield Minnesota to Sylvester Otto and Jean Terese Baltes. Jill graduated from Saint Joseph's Cathedral High School in San Diego CA. in 1956 and attended The Women's University of San Diego, majoring in Theology and Music. She retired as an Administrative Secretary for the Bakersfield City School District.

Jill had many accomplishments but the one we mention comes directly from her. While living in Chula Vista CA, her mother volunteered Jill’s services to fill in as choir director. Together Jill and her mother had the choir for five years. As it was before Vatican II, much of the music was in Latin with three and four part harmony. She says, "Sometimes we made really beautiful music together." The choir got invited to sing Christmas Carols on TV (in Tijuana) and once sang the Star Spangle Banner at a Padres baseball game.
Jill was a faithful Catholic who lived her faith through love of family, friends and neighbors. Prayerfully, she lived her vocation as a Discalced Carmelite Secular, serving as a Council member, teacher, and Community secretary.

Jill loved spending time with her family, crocheting afghans, following NASCAR and football (with and occasional Coors Light in hand), and sharing her faith in words and deeds.

Jill was preceded in death by parents, sister Molly Susan Baltes, and niece Laura Baltes Watkins.
Jill is survived by her children Jerry Hessler (Sidney), James Hessler, Molly Hessler, Michael Hessler (Shirley) and Robert Milazzo (Mern); her siblings Jerry Baltes (Pat), Patrick Baltes (Mary Kay), Nancy Baltes Tuten, and Peter Baltes (Tina); her grandchildren Ryan Hessler, Greg Hessler (Cassie), Richard Hessler, Elizabeth Goossen (Michael) and Kameryn Milazzo; great grandchildren Kamden Hessler, Wylie Hessler, and Elsie Hessler. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Services will be held on October 13, 2020 at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1800 Bedford Way Bakersfield CA 93308. Rosary will be at 10:00 am followed by the Funeral at 11:00 am.
