Obituary for Jerry Don Marvel

Jerry Marvel was born in San Francisco, California on October 6, 1943 to the proud parents of Mabel Pauline and Roy Raymond Marvel. However, he was raised in Sacramento, California. He considered this to be his hometown.

Upon turning 18, Jerry Marvel enlisted in the Air Force where he was stationed in Ramstine, Germany. His title was Air Police, which included security for all the planes on the base. Upon, returning he re-enlisted and was stationed at Nellis, Air Force Base. At Nellis, Sergeant Jerry Marvel was a 474 Civil Engineer Sq. (TAC). After eight years of service Jerry was honorably discharged on October 4th, 1968.

Jerry decided that a career in law enforcement was calling his name. He applied and was accepted for the Washington D.C Police Department upon exiting the military. On April 25th, 1969 he began protecting and serving his community. One of his first assignments was the D.C Riots.

In October 1970, Jerry applied for the Los Angeles Police Department. Once accepted, Jerry, Kathy and Kathryn Ann moved to the West Coast. On November 2, 1970 he began a twenty year career, the last ten years he was a class two detective assigned to the narcotics division. Prior to retiring Jerry, Ray Madrid, and Ken Bitterolf opened Action Security & Investigations.

Action Security & Investigations proved to be prosperous. The newly formed company was awarded the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The client’s list grew to include: Holiday Inn, Guess, Federal Express, Brink’s, The Garment District and to many to list. The company had offices located Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, and Hawaii. Action Security & Investigations was listed as a multi-million dollar company upon the partner’s selling after 19 years of business.

Jerry enjoyed having a cold drink with friends, golfing, or fishing. Driving to the coast in the Mini-Winnie to have clam chowder was just a hop, skip, and jump. He could be found almost every weekend watching a soccer, football, or baseball game of his son’s and grandson’s.

Survived by his wife of 54 years; Kathy Marvel of Bakersfield, California. Sister; Jo-Ann Winkelmaier, Daughters Debra Jenkins, Sue Hess, Christal Blessen, Sherry Frith. Son; Joshua Marvel. Six Grandson’s and One Granddaughter.

He is preceded in death by his mother Mabel, father Raymond, Brother Robert, Daughter: Kathryn Ann, Son: Jerry D. Marvel Jr.
