Jerry was born in Fresno, California, on December 17, 1936, to Margarita and Thomas Guynn. He married Juanita Marie Miller on October 26, 1957, and would later have his two children Jerry Jr. and daughter, Kim. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno, California in 1954, where soon after he would join the Navy.

Jerry joined the Navy right after graduation in 1954 and shipped out shortly after to Japan, where he was stationed for a year. After returning to the stateside, he married and raised a son and daughter. When his children were ready to join boy and girl scouts, he was right there with them. He was a registered girl scout father, and when it was time for camp outs, he loaded up his pickup and hauled the equipment for the troops, for all their camping trips.

When his son was ready for boy scouts, he became an assistant scout master. He took the boys from Troop #35 to the scout ranch in Philmont, New Mexico, three different years. There was camping, once a month with hikes and nature walks.

Jerry liked to fish, hunt, camp, and his passion was the slot machines at Table Mountain Casino, Chukchansi, and Lake Tahoe.
