Obituary for Helen Haar

Helen Rae Hayden Haar born August 12,1923, passed March 15, 2021. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2801 South Real Rd. Helen Haar is a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away at 97 years old. Helen was born the third of five children, August 12,1923 in Ogden, Utah to Ruel C. & Mary Smeding Hayden. She attended Madison & Dee Elementary School, Central Junior High School and graduated from Ogden High school. She then attended Weber College for two years and went on to finish her BS at Utah State University. While there she played on the women’s basketball team. Upon graduation she taught first grade for one year in the Ogden City school district. She met her future husband Vernon Francis Haar of Chicago, Illinois while working at the Ogden Army Supply Depot during WWII, operating a fork lift and supervising Italian Prisoners of War. After the war they were married April 20, 1946 in Fresno, California. They lived there 16 years where all five of their children were born: Suzanne Francine Ames of Clovis, CA; Bruce Vernon Haar (Glenna Wampler) of Queen Creek , AZ; Jeanette Rae Easton of Bakersfield, CA; Kurt Brian Haar of Clovis, CA and Randy Ruel Haar (Gay Brown) of Fresno, CA . The family moved to Bakersfield when Vern accepted employment with the State of California in the Employment Development Department. One of our Mom’s favorite hobbies was quilting, she took many classes to perfect her skills as a master quilter. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served as a Young Women’s President, Relief Society Secretary, and Treasurer for the Family History Library. We are forever grateful to have had Helen, "Grandma" in our lives, we love you! Helen was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four siblings.
