Obituary for Gary Edward Escalante-Crouch

Gary E. Escalante Crouch, age 80, passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, Ca. He was born May 19th, 1940 in Seattle, Washington to Esther Katz and Floyd Crouch.

Gary graduated in 1958 from Garfield High School, and continued his education in automotive repair at a local junior college. He married Connie French on May 13th, 1961 at Our Lady of Assumption in Pomona, Ca. He worked many different jobs during his lifetime but truly loved owning and running his brake shop, “World Brake,” in which he served his family and friends for over 18 years.
Gary loved playing the piano and ad libbed many a jazzy tune for his family and friends to enjoy. Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway had nothing on Gary as he had a great voice and could scat with the best of them. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends to play poker and regular dinners at the Magic Lamp, where he enjoyed good times with friends and a little dancing with the pretty girls.

Gary was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his stepfather, Tommy Katz; his children, Crystal Watts, Carrie Natalizia, and Garrett Crouch; grandchildren, Ashley Choate, Kristen Zasoski, Jessica Watts, Morgan Ibarra, Garrett Crouch Jr., Breana Crouch, Heather Crouch and Christian Muller; Great-grandchild Faye Choate; nephew Obie Crouch and nieces Laurie and Angel Crouch, and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Esther Katz and Floyd Crouch, brother Obie Crouch, and numerous cousins and aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, April 30th at 10:00 am. The church is located at 12300 Reina Road Bakersfield, Ca. 93312.
A reception immediately following will be at the Watts house 3107 Kennewick Lane, Bakersfield, Ca. 93312

Those of you who talked to Gary on the phone will remember how he always ended his calls before he hung up… “Love you Bye!”
