Obituary for Fred Harry Penermon

The Gentle Gentleman Is Resting

Fred Harry Penermon, JR. formerly of East St. Louis, Illinois was born on August 25, 1935. He
was the first-born child born to Ruby Lampley Penermon and Fred Penermon, SR. He accepted
Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of
Rev. Alexander. His parents, sisters Gloria Jean Lee, Marsha Ann Sample and brother Ulysses
Gilbert Williams preceded him in death. He attended public schools in East St. Louis, Illinois,
School District 189 where he envisioned joining the military. Upon completing High School he
enlisted in the U.S Airforce and made it his first career.

Fred relocated to Bakersfield, California and embarked upon a second career as an Aqueduct
Operator. In 2008 he married the love of his life Elaine Ogdon and through this union he gained
two children, Jeff Marek and Darla Morris.

Fred was a gentleman's gentleman. He was deeply spiritual - a man of honesty and integrity. In
all circumstances his outlook was positive. His friends considered him to be a peace maker
extraordinaire. His keen sense of humor and sharp wit were magnetic and attracted people to
him. Fred was an avid golfer. He was a dapper dresser and was always on the cutting edge of
fashion. His homies, Jimmie Jackson and Gene Mosley” called him “Mr. Stacy Adams”. Many of
his statements was “That is the way God wanted it” .

Fred Harry Penermon, JR. will be missed by all who knew him. He was a devoted father, brother,
uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed spending his time with those he cared about . He
especially enjoyed travel, reading, Sir Miles Davis and many of the other “Jazz Giants” of his
era.

He will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory : His children:
Velma Yvonne (Pebbles) Penermon (Christopher) Stevens, Jeff (Kris) Marek, Darla (Tom) Morris,
Cousins, Carolyn Lampley Granberry, St. Louis, Missouri and Elizabeth Martin, Chicago, Illinois,
13 grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
