Obituary for Eloisa H. Ornelas

Eloisa H. Ornelas (Tita)
On the morning of January 21, 2021, Eloisa Ornelas of Chihuahua, Mexico passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family at the age of 99.
Eloisa was born March 17, 1921 to Apolonio Herrera and Corina Gomez.
In November 1957, Eloisa married Esteban Z. Ornelas. Together they raised their only daughter, Alma in Bakersfield, California. Eloisa and Estaban were married for 38 years before he passed away in 1996.

In her early years Tita was a caretaker. She helped take care of her elderly aunts, uncles and grandparents in Mexico. When she came to the United States she spent many years working in the fields and packing sheds. After retiring she continued working and babysat for many family members and friends. She was affectionately known to all as "Tita" a nickname given to her by her oldest granddaughter, Sophia.

Tita was a hard worker and always kept busy. If she wasn't heading to church, caring for someone or cooking, she was likely tending to her yard, her beautiful flowers or chatting with a neighbor. Tita had many friends and knew everyone. She was funny, loving and very giving. She had a fiesty way about her that was endearing to those who knew her.

Tita loved to watch the Price Is Right and watched faithfully for 40 years. She was a loyal fan of the Dodgers and loved to play Bingo. She enjoyed poker nights with friends, bowling and visits to the casinos. Tita also loved gardening, sewing and cooking. A sweet memory we will always cherish is being able to have made tamales with her this past Christmas.

Tita took pride in all she did. One of her greatest achievements was in April of 1995, when she became a United States Citizen.

She was a faithful Catholic and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for over 55 years. She was a proud member of the Guadalupanas where she worked hard in all fundraisers, attended meetings and donated to support all events. Her memberships also included the Edad de Oro and the Comite Mexicano de Beneficencia.

Tita was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family. It didn't have to be an outing or party. She simply loved the noise and knowing everyone was home. Her love, especially for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was evident anytime one walked into her room. Her face would just light up! She had a special bond with each, cute nicknames and endless kisses for them all. Being a Mom to Alma and Tita to her grandchildren and great grandchildren is what she lived for. This brought her so much joy! Nothing made her happier than to see us all happy.

Our Tita is preceded in death by her husband, Esteban, her parents, Apolonio and Corina, her sisters, Elena and Elvira, her brothers, Heriberto, Alvaro and Cruz.
She leaves behind her daughter Alma and son-in-law Steve Chavez. Her granddaughters, Sophia and her husband, Carlos Ruiz, Stephanie Chavez and Alyssa Chavez. She was blessed with eight great grandchildren, Roman, Carlos Rene, Andrew, Xavier, Jocelyn, Steven, Lilliana and Sebastian.

We were blessed and so grateful to have had Tita with us for so long. She was always there for us. We love her so much! Words can't describe how much we will miss her. Our lives are forever changed.

Tita, you leave behind a part of you in each and every one of us! A precious light that will live on from one generation to the next.
