Obituary for Elmira Louise Wilson

Elmira L Wilson
08/19/1929 - 01/24/2021

Elmira L. Wilson (91) died peacefully at 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 24, 2021 in Bakersfield, CA.

Myra as she was known by most was born in Fawn Twp of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania on August 19,1929. Daughter of Leonard H. and Lillian F. (Callen) Brower. She was the youngest of two children. Tragically her Mother passed when Myra was just 4 years old. As her Father never remarried she was raised with the help of her Sister Ruth, her Grandfather William Callen whom she adored and other family members who pitched in to help. Myra attended grade school in the same township and attended Tarentum High School. In 1946 her Father reluctantly allowed her to travel to Arizona with a family friend whose Daughter was Myra's best friend. The approval was given only due to the fact that doctors stated the warmer dry climate found there would resolve recurrent bouts of pneumonia. As fate would have it while living in Arizona she met and fell in love with Charles E. Bonas. Their marriage in 1947 resulted in her move to Bakersfield, CA where his family resided. She worked for the Phone Company as an operator for several years before making a transition to PG&E where she worked until her dreams of starting a family came true. In 1960 after 13 years of marriage Charles and Myra welcomed their first child, a Daughter. Five years later the family was completed when they welcomed a Son. These times were filled with wonderful family adventures, sleepovers, and Birthday parties. She was among many other things, a room mother, Brownie Troop leader and Cub Scout pack Mom. She also served on the Altar Society for Sacred Heart Church for many years. Her marriage to Charles lasted 33 years until he died in 1980.

Blessed with a long life there were two other very important people in her life that must be mentioned. Fred Wilson whom she met and married in 1982. A wonderfully kind and caring man whom she was married to for 17 years before his death. Also Rusty Allman, who was a widower as well. He was a strong but compassionate man with a wonderful sense of humor. Together they found companionship, happiness and love until his death in 2007.

To her family she will be remembered as a strong woman who nursed three partners lovingly through long illnesses. A person who was loving, affectionate and easy to talk to. Ready to support you in any role and always ready to kick up her heels and have some fun. Her Grandsons found they had in her an avid fan cheering them on through all activities they were involved in and a late, late night companion to play video games with while on sleepovers.

Friends knew her to always have a pot of coffee on or a bottle of wine ready to pour. Myra had the wonderful talent of being a great listener and people found her easy to trust and confide in. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her dear friend Dolly. Other joys included gardening, reading and playing the slot machines in Las Vegas and in later years Eagle Mountain.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Lillian(Callen) Brower, her Sister Ruth (Brower) Toy, Husbands: Charles E. Bonas and Fred Wilson and beloved friend and companion: Rusty Allman.

Survivors include: her Daughter, Diana and Husband Rick Arriola and her Son, Gary Bonas.

4 Grandsons: Adam Arriola, Blake Arriola with Maddi Padgett, Vincent Arriola with wife Samantha and Aubrey Bonas.

3 Great Granddaughters: Zoey Arriola, Olivia Arriola and Jovie Arriola-Padgett

A heartfelt thank you to Amy and all the staff of the Comfort Care Home facility for the wonderful treatment provided to Myra while she resided there and to Transitions Health Service who provide angels here on earth to those in their time of need.

Mom until we meet again may you rest in eternal peace. You will be missed beyond measure.
