Obituary for Eleanor Jo Escalera
Eleanor “El” Escalera was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She went home to be with our Lord on May 30, 2021.
Eleanor was born on February 14, 1954 to Frank and Mary Tomlin. She was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. Eleanor graduated from Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College. She also attended Cal Sate Bakersfield, pursuing a career in early childhood education. She loved working with children and devoted over twenty-five years to her passion, employed with the Bakersfield City School District.
Through a mutual friend, Eleanor met Frank Escalera and they were married on July 10, 1982. They had two children Joseph and Kimberly.
Eleanor loved the Lord. She was kind, giving, and jovial. She was always ready for a good time with family and friends. Eleanor enjoyed planning family vacations, which included trips to the beach, amusement parks, zoos, and camping. She also enjoyed the holidays and making them special. She loved watching her favorite soap operas and playing her luck at various casinos.
She was preceded in death by her father Frank Tomlin, mother Mary Greenwood, and sister Mary Frances Plaud. Eleanor is survived by her husband Frank Escalera, son Joseph Escalera, daughter Kimberly Shelton, grandchildren Emmrie and Asher Shelton, and brother Harold (Mary) Tomlin. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane Bakersfield, CA. 93313.
