Obituary for Donald Eugene Cooper Sr.

Mr. Donald Eugene Cooper Sr., of Bakersfield CA, passed away on March 18th 2021 in Bakersfield California.
He was born in Baltimore Maryland, on May 26th 1941, son of the late Bernard Briscoe and Lillie Mae Wilson. Lillie Mae Wilson later married Nathaniel Warrick Cooper who was Donald’s stepfather. Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Bettye J. Cooper. He is survived by son Donald E. Cooper Jr., daughter Anita M. Cooper Owens, and son in law Kelly S. Owens. Grand children Ryen Owens, Jaya Owens and Kamren Owens. He is also survived by brothers Victor Cooper, Derrick Cooper, and deceased siblings brother Ralph Cooper and sister Juanita Cooper of Baltimore Maryland. And a host of numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald joined the U.S. Army in November of 1960. 2 years later he married his child hood sweetheart Bettye J. Lane. As he began his life as a soldier serving his country he was commissioned to Vietnam where he survived 2 tours as an infantry combat soldier. Upon returning to the States he decided to make a career in the military which resulted in him promoting to the ranking of E8 and was an outstanding drill Sargent. Towards the end of his military career spanning over 22 years he became a successful U.S. Army recruiter in Bakersfield California until his retirement.. After retiring from the military he began a new chapter in his life by enrolling at Bakersfield College to become an x-ray technician specializing in CT scans. He graduated at the top of his class receiving his Associate’s degree in radiologic technology. Shortly after graduating he was employed by Kern Medical Center where he was an x-ray technician for over 20 years until he retired for good in 2012.
In 2015 Donald E. Cooper Sr. Accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Adding another accolade to his already impeccable resume. He was a great provider for his family. Always encouraging young people to pursue higher endeavors, he was definitely a born leader in all aspects of life. His lifes mission seemed to be that of service to anyone who would listen with an open heart. A special thank you goes out to all family friends and caregivers. You are loved and greatly appreciated.
