5/6/1956-10/28/2023

Catherine (Cathy) was born in Bakersfield California where she lived most of her life. She died at home in Bakersfield on October 28, 2023 surrounded by her family. Cathy had a free and gentle spirit with a great passion for life. She loved life and spending time with family and friends. She was the kindest person known to all and had a strong will to live. She fought a colon cancer diagnosis from 2018 and refused to give in to it. Instead she made plans and was determined to follow through with each one. Her strength amazed us all. Her favorite bible verse is Matthew 19:25-26 NIV “When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Cathy graduated High School from Bakersfield High but spent partial High school years at Mary Crest Catholic High School in Colorado while spending time at her mother’s. Cathy attended college at Bakersfield College and completed the Registered Nursing Program in 1988. Cathy worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse for 9 years before becoming a Registered Nurse. She worked her entire 30+ years employed at Kern Medical Center in nursing She was blessed to retire shortly after her husband, Roy Malahowski, in 2010. Cathy enjoyed hiking in national parks, and other beautiful places in addition to traveling with her husband before his death in 2021.Cathy loved to sew and would sew Christmas dresses for her granddaughter every year, but her love was painting oil, water, and acrylic pictures/portraits. She took painting classes with her mother shortly after retiring and continued until she became too ill to attend. She was a member of the Bakersfield Art Association and was president from 2016-2018. She was happy to gift her paintings to family for special occasions. Cathy was a member of St Phillip's Catholic Church and attended/lead Bible study there. Her faith was based around her belief that she would have eternal life knowing Jesus was her savior. Cathy is survived by daughter; Destiny Spencer. Grandchildren; Ethan James, Chance Jeremy, and Alexa Paige Shearer and Bladen Joshua Rose. Siblings; Diane, aka Lola,(Randy) Beyer, Shelley (Steve) Hatcher, Daniel (Cindy) O'Shea, Jeannine (Tim) Murphy and numerous nieces and nephews and the extended Malahowski family. Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Malahowski, Mother, Jeannine Vicenec, Father, Daniel Patrick O'Shea, and Nephews, Jeremy and Joshua Stancliff and great niece Logan Buford.
