Obituary

Carolyn Louise Graham was born February 17, 1936, in Bakersfield, California, to Richard and Lorine Salau.

Carolyn spent nearly her entire life in Bakersfield. She attended Aztec Elementary School, graduated from Bakersfield High School, and in her thirties went back to school at Bakersfield College for her nursing degree, graduating with honors and later returned to teach nursing.

Her career included Bakersfield Community Hospital as Floor Nurse, Surgical Nurse at Mercy Hospital, and Kern Medical Center as Discharge Coordinator.

Carolyn was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, and church pianist.

After retiring, Carolyn was very active in genealogy, tracing her ancestry back over 700 years, also teaching. She and Vernon loved to travel including Europe, Asia, Japan, Hawaii, and the US. For over 15 years they spent the winter at Lake Havasu and summers at Panguitch Lake, Utah, with their many friends. They also traveled throughout the US in their RV.

Carolyn was a loving and devoted wife and mother who had a sense of humor, was always helping others, planning family parties, crocheting, embroidery, sewing or knitting gifts for family and friends, loved to sing, a voracious reader, and family medical advisor.

She is survived by her husband Vernon Graham, children, Robert (Bob) Graham, Stuart Graham, Kathryn (Katie) Tobin; brothers, Richard Salau, Roy Salau; sister, Dona Conley; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
