Obituary for Bethani Rachell Murphy

Bethani Rachell Murphy, passed away December 9th 2020 in Bakersfield. She was 32.
Bethani was born on March 17, 1988 (St. Patricks Day), in Bakersfield, California, to Robbie and Nikki. Throughout her life, Bethani acquired various nicknames from family members including Bethi Lou Lou, Pooch Belly, Sisser, and more commonly, Beth. After attending Sandrini Elementary and Norris Middle School, Bethani graduated from North High School in 2006. She recently married Atlanta Murphy in September 2020, whom she met in high school and reconnected with years later.
As a kid, Bethani was always very quiet, but she had her mischievous moments. Bethani was always playing soccer as a kid, just about every weekend growing up was consumed with soccer tournaments. Family was always at the center of Bethani’s heart, even as a child. When she wasn’t with her cousins Kayla and Ron Ron, you could find Bethani with her cousins Britni and Briana and her younger brother, probably playing “Power Rangers”. All the cousins were within two years apart in age and as a result, they were attached at the hip. When Bethani was 14, she got a built-in best friend and little sister, Carley. Bethani always adored her little sister and was caught countless times waking Carley up from a nap after she got out of school. Bethani was always very curious as well, even as an adult. Bethani was never afraid to ask some of the most absurd questions. Questions that sometimes made a person uncomfortable, but the conversation would always end in a laugh.
About 5 years ago, Bethani was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, a disease which caused subsequent health issues, but nonetheless, a disease which Bethani fought until the very end. Bethani was a fighter in every sense of the word. She endured countless tests and painful procedures, but would never let it stop her from laughing or smiling. Bethani never wanted anyone to feel bad for her or treat her any differently. She was determined to fight this disease and win, but she was tired. Tired of bloodwork and medications and procedures, so Bethani spent her last days comfortable and surrounded by loved ones.
Bethani Murphy is survived by her mother Nikki Sherrell, father Robbie Murphy, grandparents Linda and Paul Murphy, grandfather James Fordyce, younger brother Branden Murphy, sister-in-law Tonika, little sister Carley Sherrell, wife Atlanta Murphy, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandmother Denice Dye, grandfather James Dye, grandmother Dorothy Fordyce, and childhood best friend Jared Wood.
A personal thank you to Karlee Miller for the love and support you showed Beth for years with this illness. Janice, Geoff, and Atlanta, thank you for being by Beth's side during her last days.
