Obituary for Arthur Ante Chavez

Arthur Ante Chavez from Bakersfield, CA, born June 17, 1942 was 78 when he passed away January 10, 2021. Arthur was born in Galveston Texas to Susie and Dan Chavez. Arthur moved to Bakersfield at age 12, graduated from Bakersfield High School, and attended Bakersfield College as a student athlete, playing basketball for two seasons. At BC, Arthur met his wife of 57 years, Shirley Martinez Chavez. They were married on January 4, 1964 and had seven beautiful children. After marriage, Arthur began a long career as a ceramic tile setter. Arthur took great pride in everything he did, and it showed in his craft. After working in the trade for many years, Arthur earned his contractor’s license and had a very successful business for 20 years (Art Chavez Tile). He mentored many, teaching them the tricks of the trade. After retirement, he stayed connected to the industry through his son Art Jr. who continues to carry on the Chavez name as a ceramic tile contractor (Chavez 1 Tile).

Arthur was a family man who loved spending time with his six children during holidays or special occasions. Nothing made him more proud than seeing his children have their own success. He instilled a tireless work ethic and always led by example. Arthur was known for his generosity and easy going spirit.

Arthur enjoyed sports and had a passion for coaching. In his younger years, he coached his baseball teams to championships, volunteered as a basketball assistant, or gave valuable input after his children’s and grandchildren’s games. Arthur’s eyes opened a little wider and he smiled a little wider when he was in the gym. He was an avid Laker Fan who also enjoyed bowling, golfing and having breakfast or lunch at a local restaurant with family and friends.
